Guide To Ret Pally (Wotlk)

People who say "Palying a ret pally takes no skill" go away i dun liek you.
And besides if they did then no one would play them kthxbai [/sarcasim]


[This guide was born because im on vaction and every day i have to wait 3 hours on people to quit playing with them selfs and get the fuck out of bed.]

Picking a Race.



Now in this guide i will be giving my talent tree, gear, and "tactics". So to start off Lets talk about races. Dwarfs have more stam and that can be useful in longer fights... but if your going to be an alli i recomend a human due to the stealth detection racial. If your going horde... this is a good idea due to the blood elfs arcane torrent racial... a 2min cd 2 second silence. Mainly useful against healers because of pallys inability to fucking kill them >.>.


What Buffs do i use?

When you vote go with the sunflower buff.
SoB. (Seal of Blood).
Blessing of Might.
Reti Aura. (The purple one).



"Tactics"


Normal rotation. Fairly easy... Crusader strike, Divine storm, Exorsim. Auto attack until CS CD is up then HoJ ( Hammer of Justice) and Repeat rotaion. Really i shouldnt call this a rotaion but what ever... its a genral idea of what to do when.

When fighting a healer...

Go in thinking it will be a long fight. This is not always true ofc but it helps mentaly prepare you.
Now they will more then likely have a pvp trinket. This is a 2min CD that removes all movment impairing effects. Now you see how this can hurt a pally because we <3 our stuns so much. So what your going for here is to not let them get off a heal at all. DO NOT open with a stun. Open with crusader strike and continue to divine storm as usual. Now that more then likely hurt them >.>. This will make them say oshit then hit their 1.5 sec heal button. Repentance if the decide to do this. If not continue with exorsim and CS. By now they will have healed so repentance is now on its CD. 2 Things could happen here 1 good the other not so much. They trinked your repentince. GOOD now simply NoJ (Hammer of Justice) and kill them. Might not be so easy but i cant map out your every fight. They DID NOT trink... this means they will tricket out of HoJ... bad not stun so really my only advice is to pray to your god and keep going with Divine Plea and the above rotaion.

When fighting a Warrior

This is annoying. Warriors can get out of repentince with Berserker Rage. Then they can trink your HoJ so stuns are out of the question. But it is doable. I myself have killed some doner warriors with out blowing a bubble or LoH. Now healing is simply out of the question, because they are fury or arms. They both have talents that give you a debuff and will reduce healing by 50%. My best advice is to go in knowing if they are arms or fury (Dual weilding is fury one 2-h is arms). If they are fury you have a much better chance of winning. I dont know why but when i have fought warriors i tend to beat fury with out as much trouble as when im fight an arms warrior. Use avenging wrath only if your doing fine on health. Otherwise save your debuff for a bubble.


When fighting a Warlock...

Well not that this is realllly hard but i have a few tips for example- DONT let them get of soulfire =o. This is kinda like pryo blast but it hits alot harder. It has a 3second cast time and you can feel free to interupt it with HoJ Arc torrent or repentince. Let them get a a few fears dont use your trink untill your in an oh fuck situation.


When fighting a Rogue...

Have your sheild and axe on as talked about in the Gear section below. This is ofc if they stunlock if they garrote (and they never do) switch back to your 2-h the second you get jumped.
Route 1. They stunlocked.

Oshi.... Notice how hard your getting hit. If its bad then trink kidney shot. If it isnt then save trink for blind. NEVER waste it on sap i dont care if you think you can see them.

Route 2. They used garrote.

Kool you wins unless they are abusing or have badass gear and skills and...stuff. Save trink for blind normal rotaion use stuns whatnots.



If being attacked by a ranged class whos being a little bitch on the roofs in Dala...
1. Run aWay.
2. /Flying Mount
3. Go over to them.
4. Kill them.
5. Problem solved.


When to Heal yourself.

If you don't have a heal bot (lol'd) then you might get close to dying *please note this e-sarcasim*. So when is it a good time to heal? Well...
Its hard to say Really. If you know they cannot get out of repentice and you are low on health try for a holy light. Flash of light helps some times but DO NOT spam it as this eats mana literally.
NEVER heal when Divine Plea is on you. Srsly wastes mana and doesnt heal you for jack shit.


Before Dueling someone...

Take the time to note a few things... spec, and based on talents/gear and poisons are they going to abuse?
If they're going to abuse decline its a waste of time.
If they are resto/holy look above.
If they are Ret like you note their spec before going in.
And if your not in the mood to duel and they're being an asshole about it tell them to fuck off.

When to use Divine Plea.

Kool spell gives you mana back... but oh shit cant heal while its on or you get only 50% of it. I cast mine when i dip below 50% mana in the middle of a fight but i dont strictly follow that rule.


When fighting a Doner/Erad geared person.


This part isnt ment to be taken to seriously but try to aviod fighting them in world pvp/legacy, Dueling is fun and it shows your not an unkillable beast like some people seem to think they are.


When to use Lay on Hands.

Lay on hands is a 20min CD that heals you fully and restores a bit of mana. This is useful ofc. But due to long CD i recomend you use it for...
1. A 2v1
2. When your really PO'ed.
3. If your logging soon any ways.
4. For the lulz.

When to Cleanse/Hand of Freedom.

When you get movment imparing effects from a mage or frost shock by a shaman. A warriors hamsting does not come off with cleanse on HoF. Rogue poisons can be cleansed off but it is mana inefficent because they hit you so much it will get back on over and over again.



Bubbling.


Pallys are well known for their bubble hearthing, to do this if you dont know hit Divine Sheild and then after hit hearthstone. Some people dont know that guyz. But Before running in thinking your going to be bubbling make sure that there is not a priest around as they can dispel it (Bullshit amirite?). Once bubbled you will deal half damage, this is bad but makes a bubble useful for mainly a good heal or two.
On a more lulzy note its fun to bubble hearth in duels.



When to use Avenging Wrath.

Avenging Wrath is a 2min cd that gives you a debuff making divine protection and avenging wrath unuseable for 2min.Srs part here as some pallys will use this without even THINKING...
Is there a mage around?
Will i need a bubble more against this class?
Do i even NEED to use it for this fight?
Think briefly about all these things before hitting that key.

Lastly in this part of the guide i want to cover a few things...


Trash talking.

Dont be an asshole unless they are being an asshole to you, and never forget my favorite function of this game -- IGNORE.

Abusing.


Bad pally bad. If you follow my spec and get the talent Pursuit of Justice then DO NOT get minor speed increse gems or enchants as this could be a perma ban. For example -- http://wow-trance.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3860


Before you buy erads...

Dont, wait for t3 wich will be level 80 and alot better then t2. Instead i got glory of pvp. If you dont know what this is it cost 500 points has 3 useable mounts not useable from your wowtrance item. The coolest one by far is the frostwyrm seen har--http://i.thottbot.com/ss/o/78488.jpg. Head- S5
Neck- Fool's Trial
Shoulders- T7.5
Back- Drape of the Deadly Foe
Chest- S5
Wrist- Wristbands of the Sentinel Huntress (Found at T7.5 Vender)
Hands- S5
Belt- S5
Legs- T7.5
Feet- Bladed Steel Boots (Found at T7.5 vender)
Ring1- Strong Handed Ring
Ring2- Ring of Invincibility

Trinkets-

I always have Medailion of the Horde Equiped, but i switch out between darkmmon card: greatness and the Engi lightning trink.

Gems- I stack the +16 str gems, but do what ever fits you best.

I stopped reading after this: ret pall doesnt take skill. you spam 3 abilities and wait for CD. That's the average paladin. If they did take skill no one would play them? Take a look at priest, they are the hardest to level and still I see lots of priests. take druid for example: They need to change to situations by shifting forms and changing their entire tactics. Seems quite hard, even though people play feral druids.

I honestly dont care if people bitch about ret pallys taking no skill, i played a ret pally back when all pallys where supposed to do was heal. And i do agree with your statments about priest and feral druids. But every thing takes an amount of skill and a little bit of know how. If some one had never played a ret pally before and just went in doing the frist thing that came in the're head they would get facerolled. Even a rogue who has never played the class before could use some tips on what to hit when.
